报告摘要:Research and development (R&D) on optoelectronic materials/devices, nano-structures and applications have been a hot focus recently. More than 100 years ago, based upon Edison’s invention of electrical lighting bulb, it had initialized an electrical echo in human lighting. The recent breakthrough and development in semiconductor light emitting diodes (LEDs) in particular based upon GaN and related wide gap semiconductors, may open a new LED lighting century, changing the human life, industry and society. These energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solid-state light sources are currently revolutionizing an increasing number of applications, and bring apparent benefits to vast areas of development, such as lighting, communications, biotechnology, imaging, and medicine.

The author, team & collaborators have been focused on R&D of advanced semiconductors & devices (LEDs, solar cells etc. This presentation would introduce research accomplishments in these fields from recent years. Our used metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system with a vertical growth configuration and a high speed rotation disk will be introduced and compared with other MOCVD systems. The research results and achievements on GaN-based, SiC, II-VI/III-V, ZnO-based, other oxides materials/devices (LEDs, solar cells etc) and nano-structures from the author/collaborators in recent years would be reviewed, and they were investigated by multiple characterization/analytical techniques.

The combination of theory & experiments, multiple-techniques & interdisciplinary research are demonstrated. On requests, we could focus on some topics or discuss more. It’s hopeful to penetrate into fundamental concepts and properties, to explore & solve some tough/unsolved problems, to promote research in related fields, and to enhance the collaboration & exchanging, for students and professors.
